We need to upgrade our browsers to the latest, more secure versions: IE 8, FF3.5, Opera 10, Safari 4. We need to fortify other aspects of our PC too. There are a number of free tools available on the Net such as Advanced System Care (system optimization), Zone Alarm (firewall), Avast! (anti-virus), Spybot (anti-spyware), Virtual Box (sandbox), No Script (Firefox extension) that can secure our interaction with the Internet.
Also because cyber criminals use Blackhat SEO to fool search engines, we need to frequent sites like mywot.com and siteadvisor.com or better still, install their respective plugins in our browsers for real time and continuous checking. Another way to avoid such sites is to use social bookmarking sites such as delicious.com (general) or Sphinn.com (specialized) and many others.
