VogueIndia 20091101 Scan16 Tribhovandas

Overall I like the snap but it is a bit too Teutonic for me. Also I don't like the necklace. It is too curvy and stiff for my liking. Neither can I really understand the choice of lipstick shade.

VogueIndia 20091101 Scan15 Ayesha Thapar

This is an example of a great snap going way wrong. The hair is not only looking unmanageable but is also getting crowded out by that strange background. And is that her right hand behind her head? We would never know.

VogueIndia 20091101 Scan14 Kangna Ranaut

(click on image for full view)

This snap is clearly way up there in Kangna Ranaut's 10 best club. In my opinion, it is the shallow depth of field which places the spotlight on her forehead and eyes that is responsible. She is looking very natural, very different and very nice.

VogueIndia 20091101 Scan13 Jacqueline Fernandez

(click on image for full view)

Her mouth is her strongest feature and this is precisely how it needs to be photographed. Sadly, the needless halo and the straightened hair reduce the impact somewhat. I am also wondering if she should have been looking away from the camera.

I have always wondered how have women coped with heavy earrings all these years. Aren't these a pain in the ..er neck. Ayesha Thapar's earlobes seem to be doing just fine, Thank you.

VogueIndia 20091101 Scan11 Ayesha Thapar

(click on image for full view)

This is an example of just how tough such photography really is. The poor photographer has to fit in all the jewellery while making sure that the model does not look unnatural. Sorry, but here she DOES end up looking unnatural.

VogueIndia 20091101 Scan10 Ayesha Thapar

Somehow, I have never liked the idea of spaced beads or pearls. And I am sure that this trend of multi-coloured gems (Meenakari, Kundan, Jadau etc) from olden times would die yet again. The only three things I like in this image are her face, her right hand and the background cloth.

VogueIndia 20091101 Scan09 Ayesha Thapar

I am afraid but I like neither Ayesha Thapar nor that necklace, or whatever. Maybe it is the lipstick or the eye shadow or the light play. Something is awry somewhere.

My most favourite photo of Ayesha Thapar.

VogueIndia 20091101 Scan07 Katrina Kaif

(click on image for full view)

I like the expression, especially the eyes but not the halo or the bra show. Bra shows look better in more casual, sensual or layered apparel as opposed to such formal dresses.

VogueIndia 20091101 Scan06 Katrina Kaif

(click on image for full view)

Excellent expression, dress, background and light play. Also notice how the background tapers off at two thirds height. The Rule of Thirds is based on the fact that the human eye is naturally drawn to a point about two-thirds up a page. The only thing I don't like is the right hand.

VogueIndia 20091101 Scan05 Katrina Kaif

(click on image for full view)

This image could have broken into Katrina's best 10 image club had it not been for the chair. I equate it to remaining seated when greeting someone who has just walked in. The chair is the only thing I can blame. Maybe the toning is a bit intense but it works because the whole point of the curtain and the dress is to form a line pattern which the heavy toning equalizes. And of course the genius is in the halo. I like the footwear too and the cellophane on the floor makes the setting ethereal almost. Overall, definitely 90 plus material.

VogueIndia 20091101 Scan04 Deepika Padukone

(click on image for full view)

This image of Deepika Padukone did actually manage to surprise me. How slight a change in hairstyle does it take to make a person look so different.

VogueIndia 20091101 Scan03 Ayaan Ali Khan

(click on image for full view)

In this age of colour magazines, a Black and White photo can be regarded as an extreme form of toning. In my view the light play does indeed justify such toning.

Though the unshaven look is in nowadays, it doesn't seem to suit Ayaan especially in such a closeup with his wife Neema.

VogueIndia 20091101 Scan02 BMW Z4

(click on image for full view)

Ever since its launch, the BMW Z4 Roadster has been lapping up design awards, first the Eyes on Design award at Detroit Auto Show. Then the coveted Red Dot award. And in July 2009, the International Design Excellence Award 2009 presented by the Industrial Designers Society of America.

Sorry, but somehow I don't really like the design especially the front. It is too aggressive and crude for me. In fact, I might go so far as to call it ugly almost.

VogueIndia 20091101 Scan01 Kate Moss

(click on image for full view)

Kate Moss is literally the topmost model in the world pulling in tens of thousands of dollars per day from various activities and deals. This is perhaps her best photo to date. Everything is nearly perfect. The hair, the complexion, the eyes, the nose, the mouth, the dress and of course, the setting. I give it 98/100, the sunlight distribution is a bit unnatural.

Digit 20091101 Scan04 Nvidia Ion Intel Atom

(click on image for full view)

Green computing is a growing trend and Intel Atom has become its face. But the green computers, the so-called Netbooks and Nettops, we get today have single core Atoms and power hungry Intel 945 chipsets which are poor in graphics as well. In 2010, we would see widespread deployment of Dual core Atoms and Nvidia Ion chipsets that boast of low power consumption and excellent graphic capabilities. To run Windows 7 smoothly, insist on Dual core Atom N330, Nvidia Ion chipset and 2GB RAM in your Netbook or Nettop. Some of the better Netbooks have built in 3G which provides wireless broadband upto 3Mbps. Also make sure the built-in WiFi is 802.11n not 802.11g.

Digit 20091101 Scan02 HDTVs

(click on image for full view)

The ideal size of flat panel TV to buy depends on viewing distance. If you want 32 or 42 inch, go for LCD TV. If you want 46 or 50 inch, go for Plasma TV. Dynamic contrast ratio is misleading because it is not measured under standardized conditions. Make sure the resolution is 1920x1080 progressively scanned or 1080p, in short. Among LCD TVs, IPS panels have better color accuracy while PVA panels have better contrast. Also look at frequency, avoid 50 Hz, try to find a panel with a 100 or even 200 Hz refresh rate.

Even though micro-blogging is a relatively new phenomenon, Twitter's billion dollar valuation is proof that it is here to stay. But Twitter traffic is flattening out while clients like Seesmic and TweetDeck are getting more popular. Twitter is banking on Lists, Retweets and soon Geo-Location to fuel growth. Meanwhile TwitterFeed ensures that blogging hangs in there as well. The sites mentioned in the scan allow us to get an idea about any twitter user's activity and influence. S Sreesanth made a dream comeback in the recently concluded (and won) Kanpur Test against the Lankans. He even walked away with the Man of the Match award. "Landing the ball with an upright seam comes naturally to me. From the time I started bowling medium pace, my release has always been like this. I am thankful to God for it. I don't try anything extravagant these days. I keep it simple and concentrate more on moving the ball well. I think I have rediscovered my rhythm, which is helping me get reverse swing. The idea is to keep working at it," Sreesanth told TOI.

IndiaToday 20091109 Scan02 Sanjana Kapoor

(click on image for full view)

We all know that the Kapoor khandaan has been into the theatre thing from the very beginning. So it comes as no surprise that they are still very active there. What impressed me the most about this image is how Bandeep Singh has been able to capture a masterpiece image out of an almost candid setting. Notice the genius in composition and the way the (added?) colours of the wall and dress complement each other. Sanjana Kapoor is looking nice with long hair and ethnic clothing.

IndiaToday 20091109 Scan01 Kareena Kapoor

(click on image for full view)

With Kurbaan, Kareena Kapoor has delivered yet another award winning performance. I liked her look in the movie. It is sad that the adult certificate marred the movie's performance at the box office. The bare back poster controversy didn't help either.

New Woman 20091101 Scan03 Gauhar Khan

(click on image for full view)

Whenever an image is able to change my perception of someone, I blindly give it a 100. In my opinion, this is a startling image of Gauhar Khan. Of course, if I HAVE TO be picky, there are some objective flaws: fingers of left hand, unmanaged hair, tee tuck-in and some subjective ones: right hand, light play; but think of what it could have been.

According to her, we shouldn't deprive ourselves of the foods we like. Moderation and regular exercise seems to work for her.

New Woman 20091101 Scan02 Amrita Rao

(click on image for full view)

In such an image, the magic lies in the stockings which create a gradient making the arms and face look that extra bit radiant. Problem is that they are not so apparent here and might actually be missing altogether. Meanwhile, I would like to take issue with the bracelet, pendant and floor lining. Even so, the pose, attitude and dress more than make up for these. In any case, this photo is certainly in the top 10 list of Amrita Rao's best ever snaps because it effortlessly puts her in the next bracket of classiness.

New Woman 20091101 Scan01 The Bride

(click on image for full view)

For God knows what forsaken reason, I am a sucker for this particular pose. In this instance however, the hair is a wee bit too thick and the dress seems to be ruling the body rather than the other way round. With the attitude inherent in such a pose the dress must necessarily be subservient to the body.

People 20091009 Scan05 Anushka Manchanda

(click on image for full view)

I love the pose, the attitude, the dress and the lightplay but not the hair and that thing around the neck (choker?). Still the photo does indeed succeed in conveying the never say die spirit one would associate with Anushka Manchanda.

People 20091009 Scan04 Mahesh Bhatt

I love vintage pics and these ones are classic in more ways than one. Was Mahesh Bhatt aware of the kind of success that awaited him especially since he is known for his introspection.

People 20091009 Scan03 Sonam Kapoor

(click on image for full view)

This image is an example of contrast, Sonam is looking EXTRA pretty because Aishwarya and Malaika are looking plain. And I suspect the reason could be that old saying: beauty lies in asymmetry. If ever I were asked to design a mannequin's face and hair, I would use this image as an inspiration.

People 20091009 Scan02 Sonam Kapoor

(click on image for full view)

I equate this photo to getting a tip from some chef that is easy enough to implement in our own kitchen. So many girls would look so funky and go-getting with such a hairstyle and they could do it all by themselves. No fretting over hair shades and conditioners. Not that the white kameez, patterned sleeveless jacket, black dupatta and oxidized silver aren't a good tip in themselves.

People 20091009 Scan01 Sonam Kapoor

(click on image for full view)

This could possibly be Sonam Kapoor's best snap ever. In my opinion, the four secrets behind the genius of this snap are the hair, the eyes, the over-exposure and consequent desaturation. I am not commenting on the nose, mouth and neck because their outlining is a result of the over-exposure. I tried but couldn't find any flaw anywhere. BTW, I have used Matthew Brown's Autostitch to combine the two scans.
